Privacy policy

Effective September 25, 2026. filmfam is a private photo-sharing app for families. This policy explains what we collect, why, who else handles it, and how to remove it. Questions: kurt.leafstrand@gmail.com.

What we collect

• Your account: your mobile phone number (to sign you in) and the first name you give your family.
• What you share: photos and videos you post, including any information embedded in the original files (such as where and when a photo was taken); captions; an optional place name and map location you choose to add; replies, reactions, poll questions and votes, and check-ins; and your profile photo, bio, links and "now" entries if you add them.
• Invitations: the name and phone number of each person an organizer invites. We never upload your address book: only the contacts you pick. The invitation text itself is sent from your own phone's Messages app, not by us.
• Service records: your family membership and role; when you post, reply or react (not the content, for measuring whether families use the service); storage used; subscription status from Apple; safety reports you send; and a device token so we can send notifications.
• Waitlist: if sign-ups are paused, your name and phone number and when you joined the waitlist, so we can let you in and notify you.

We do not collect payment card details (Apple handles payment), we do not use advertising or third-party tracking, and we do not sell your information.

How we use it

To sign you in, show your family's posts to your family, send notifications, run the subscription, keep the service secure (for example, limiting repeated sign-in attempts), respond to reports and support requests, and understand whether the service works for families. We do not use your photos, videos or messages to train AI models.

Who can see it

Your posts, replies, reactions, profile and phone number are visible to the members of your family, including people who join later, who can see the family's earlier posts. Anyone in your family can save a copy of a photo or video to their own device; removing it from filmfam does not remove those copies. Family organizers manage who is in the family.

Content is encrypted in transit and stored on servers we control. It is not end-to-end encrypted: authorized operators can access data when needed to run the service, restore backups, or respond to a safety report.

Service providers

• Bird sends and checks sign-in codes, and receives your phone number to do so.
• Apple processes subscriptions and delivers notifications. Notifications say only "New activity in your family"; they never contain your content.
• Our hosting provider runs the servers that store the service's data, and encrypted backups are kept on a separate computer we control.

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect someone's safety.

How long we keep it

• Your content stays until you delete it, your account is deleted, or your family's 20 GB allowance is full: then the family's oldest photos and videos, with their replies and reactions, are removed automatically to make room.
• If your family's subscription ends, the family is paused; if it isn't renewed within 30 days, the family is deleted.
• Sign-in attempts are deleted after a day, and expired invitations after 30 days.
• Encrypted backups expire within 30 days, so deleted content can remain in them until then.

Your choices and rights

In the app you can edit your profile, delete your posts, block or report someone, export your account data, and delete your account (Family settings › Help and safety). Deleting your account removes your posts and replies from the service; deleting an organizer's account closes the family for everyone. Cancel a subscription separately in your Apple account settings. You can also email us to access, correct or delete your information, and we will respond within 30 days.

Age

filmfam is for people 13 and older. Only adults (18 or older) can start a family, manage it, or pay; people aged 13 to 17 can join only when an adult invites them into their family. At sign-up we ask for your birthday to check this; it stays on your phone, and we keep only whether you are under 13, 13 to 17, or an adult. We do not allow accounts for children under 13 or knowingly collect their information; if you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will delete it. Families may of course share photos of their children with each other.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
